MSA - The Youth Outreach Program
The coordinators of the program at the center are really looking for volunteers (they have about 5-10 and could use 15-20 total) for tutoring, which is in any high school subject but mostly math and writing and maybe just a mentor figure. Their email is [email protected] . So here are all the programs:
- Tutoring Monday and Wednesday 4:30-6:30, ongoing. The students are middle school and high school aged.
- Older brother/mentor for kids in Sunday madrassa program - don't necessarily need to be a teacher, you can just come by for one or two hours on Sunday. They especially want a brother to come by and shoot some hoops with the students and bond with them, maybe inspire them to work harder and be successful. Sisters are welcome too. Just contact them at the email above.
- Youth committee. They are working to have a youth group at this center and have many programs they would like to start, so if you would like to help out or be on the committee, just contact them and get involved.
Movie Nights, College Tours, and College Application Workshops
We are tentatively planning to hold such events, but we need people to sign up to volunteer for them as well as more youth interested in coming to them. So if you know anyone interested in attending, please send us their contact info, and also let us know what dates and programs you can volunteer for by replying to our email. |
Project Downtown
Every Jumuah (Friday) students help by feeding the hungry, homeless, and the needy. They prepare bag lunches and then distribute them in People's Park. Email [email protected]. |
Averroes Institute
Averroes Institute is a new Islamic High School in Fremont. They are looking for volunteers and teachers in a variety of roles and would really appreciate new recruits. So if you're interested, shoot them an email to their rep Osman Khan at [email protected]. |
Open-SV
Open-SV is a group of over 1000 professional Muslims in the Bay Area with many entrepreneurs and alumni of top universities. InshaAllah, we are trying to coordinate an event with them on November 10th, Saturday, in the morning where they will have keynote speakers who will have things of interest for both high school students as well as us, college students, so make sure to come through, and invite everyone you know once we have the facebook event up. They can also get us connections with Bay Area internships, research, jobs, and more, so if you're interested in them, you can always go to their website to find more, just google them. |
